Hon. Carlos R. Moreno
Appointed by the City Attorney

Carlos R. Moreno spent a 25-year career serving at all levels of the State and federal judicial systems in California, including four years as a federal district court judge and ten years as a Justice on the California Supreme Court. Justice Moreno also served as U.S. Ambassador to Belize under appointment by President Barack Obama and is currently affiliated with JAMS, the nationally-recognized mediation and arbitration service.

Richard Polanco
Appointed by Council District 1

Richard Polanco is the former California Senate Majority Leader and Chairman of the California Latino Legislative Caucus. First elected in 1986, Senator Polanco served sixteen years in the California Legislature, serving as Senate Majority Leader from 1998 to his retirement in 2002. Additionally, Senator Polanco established the California Latino Caucus Institute for Public Policy in 2002.

Dennis Cagna
Appointed by Council District 2

Dennis Cagna has served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Housing and Healing. In that role he has been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission of providing essential housing and supporting services to people living in poverty with HIV/AIDS or other health challenges. Mr. Cagna also serves as executive director of Ernst & Young in its consulting practice on large-scale project management and financial management services.

Richard Katz
Appointed by Council District 3

Richard Katz was elected to the California State Assembly in 1980, serving continuously for 16 years, and for a time as Minority Leader. Mr. Katz was instrumental in the creation of the County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and was California’s lead negotiator for the landmark Colorado River Agreement. Mr. Katz has additionally served as a City Planning Commissioner and Metro Board Member, among other roles.

Rocky Delgadillo
Appointed by Council District 5

Rocky Delgadillo served as the City of Los Angeles City Attorney from 2002 to 2010. Winning the election in 2001, Mr. Delgadillo became the first Latino to win a citywide office in Los Angeles in more than 100 years. Prior to his election, Mr. Delgadillo served as Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles for Economic Development, where he attracted new jobs to emerging neighborhoods in the City. Mr. Delgadillo is currently a partner at DLA Piper.

Valerie Lynne Shaw
Appointed by Council District 8

Valerie Lynne Shaw serves on the Board of Governors for the California Community College System, a role to which she was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown. Ms. Shaw also served the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works in varying roles from 1996 to 2013, serving as the President, Vice President, and Commissioner.

Susan Minato

Rev. Edward L. Anderson
Appointed by Council District 10

Reverend Edward L. Anderson has served as the Senior Pastor of McCarty Memorial Christian Church since 2015. Reverend Anderson also serves as Co-Chair of the California Poor People’s Campaign and Regional Organizer of L.A. Voice in South Los Angeles, in addition to a host of civic and community leadership and board membership positions.

Michele Prichard
Appointed by Council District 11

Michele Prichard currently serves as Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Liberty Hill Foundation. She directs the organization’s Environmental Health & Justice program, which guides collaborative efforts to change public policy. Ms. Prichard was instrumental in designing and implementing a process to gather community input into the newly-adopted Los Angeles County Sustainability Program.

David Hyun
Appointed by Council District 12

David Hyun is a Principal at Red Hook Capital Partners with over 20 years of experience in corporate accounting, finance, and real estate. In addition to volunteering and serving on various non-profit organizations, Mr. Hyun currently serves as Board Treasurer for the Community Coalition in South Los Angeles.

Natalie Freidberg

Sonja F. Diaz
Appointed by Council District 14

Sonja Diaz is a practicing civil rights attorney and policy advisor. As Founding Director of the UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Initiative, Diaz co-founded the first multi-issue policy think tank focused on Latinos in the University of California. Ms. Diaz previously served as policy counsel to Senator Kamala D. Harris during her first and second terms as California's attorney general.

Nam Le
Appointed by Council District 15

Nam Le has served as the Political Director of the UFCW Local 770 since 2011, where he leads the day-to-day political operations for the organization’s 32,000 members. Mr. Le served as campaign manager for two landmark affordable housing bills: Los Angeles County Measure H (2017) and City of Los Angeles Proposition HHH (2016), both of which passed with a large majority of the vote.

Elissa Barrett
Appointed by the City Controller

Elissa Barrett is a public interest attorney and Executive Director of the Western Justice Center, a conflict resolution education organization. She co-founded Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice and has served in a variety of capacities at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, where she specialized in housing rights and created the Holocaust Survivors Justice Network and the California Consumer Justice Coalition. Ms. Barrett is a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Maria Brenes

Maria Brenes is the Executive Director of InnerCity Struggle, where she has spearheaded an expansion of the influence of students and community residents in decision-making about Los Angeles' public schools, mobilizing thousands of Latinx parents and students in the Eastside of Los Angeles.

Charisse Bremond Weaver
Appointed by the Office of the Mayor

Charisse Bremond Weaver is President and CEO of the Brotherhood Crusade, a grassroots organization with a vision of improving quality of life and meeting the unmet needs of individuals in South Los Angeles. The organization was founded by Charisse's late father Walter Bremond in 1968.
